Sports Medicine: A Multispecialty Approach to Get You Back in the Game
The Spectrum Health Medical Group Sports Medicine program is founded on the idea that all athletes, young and old, need appropriate diagnosis and treatment as quickly as possible to help them return to play more quickly and safely.
Sports medicine services once reserved for professional and collegiate athletes are now available to middle school and high school athletes, as well as weekend warriors—adults who are dedicated to exercise and want to remain active at any age.
Education also is part of our mission: we inform West Michigan athletes on how to optimize their physical activity and prevent injuries.
Our experienced team of providers—including physicians, surgeons, physician assistants and certified athletic trainers—treat all types of sports injuries, from shoulder problems to complex knee-ligament reconstruction. We look at each individual patient's unique biomechanics, equipment and functional abilities in relation to their specific sport.
We ensure that all sports-related injuries are evaluated within 24 to 48 hours from the time we are notified. We also provide on-site x-rays and injections and have direct access to MRI imaging and physical therapy services.
Each fall, we offer Saturday morning walk-in sports injury clinics for casting and splinting of fractures. We also bring technological advances to local athletes by using ultrasound and regenerative injections for appropriate diagnoses and injuries.
When necessary, we provide priority access to subspecialty care outside of orthopaedics and sports medicine, making every step of your care—from scheduling an appointment to finishing rehabilitation—efficient and coordinated.
